International tourists can now rejoice in the fact that Bali has fully reopened its doors after a long hiatus. Recently, there has been a notable increase in the number of tourist arrivals, with many people returning to the island to relish the sunny weather and captivating beaches once more.
Bali Entry Guidelines: What’s Still Required
Most of the Bali travel restrictions due to COVID-19 have been lifted. The Government of Indonesia no longer asks for proof of vaccination, PCR test results, the SATUSEHAT app installed, travel insurance covering COVID-19, or face masks.
Entry requirements can change in the blink of an eye, so always check them out before you head to Bali. For that, you may visit the Indonesia Directorate General of Immigration website. Other helpful websites are those of the Indonesian Embassy in the Netherlands and the US State Department.
In order to travel to Bali, you will still need all the required documents and items. We will discuss what these are in further detail.
Passport Validity Requirements for Bali
To enter Indonesia, your passport will need to have a remaining validity of at least six months from the date of entry, and it should have two blank pages for the entry stamp. Thus, it’s essential that your passport be valid for the next six months to avoid any complications.
Bali Visa Options for Tourists
When it comes to visas, there are a number of options, including visa exemption, Visa on Arrival, Electronic Visa on Arrival, and the B211A Tourist Visa:
1. Visa-Free Entry Countries and Limits
Nationals of the following countries are eligible for visa exemption for a maximum of 30 days:
- Brunei Darussalam
- Cambodia
- Laos
- Malaysia
- Myanmar
- Philippines
- Singapore
- Thailand
- Vietnam
However, this exemption cannot be extended, nor can it be converted into another kind of stay permit.
2. Who Can Get a Visa on Arrival for Bali
Citizens of the following countries or regions can enter Indonesia on a VOA:
- Albania, Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Austria
- Bahrain, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Brunei Darussalam, Bulgaria
- Cambodia, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic

The VOA costs IDR Rp500,000 (roughly USD $35) and is valid for 30 days, and it can be extended once for another 30 days at a local immigration office in Indonesia by paying an extension fee of IDR Rp500,000. However, the VOA cannot be converted into another kind of permit.
3. How to Apply for a Bali e-VOA
If you want to avoid the hassle of getting a VOA at the airport, you can opt for an e-VOA on the official e-VOA website before your trip. It works just like the VOA, except that you further have the option of applying for a 60-day e-VOA for a fee of IDR Rp1,500,000 (roughly USD $105).
4. Long-Stay Option: B211A Visa Explained
Citizens of countries and regions not listed above, and foreigners who wish to stay in Indonesia for more than 60 days, can opt for a B211A tourist visa. This visa is valid for 60 days, and up to two extensions (with 60 days for each extension) can be granted.
In other words, you can stay in Indonesia for up to 180 days on the B211A visa. This visa must be applied for at an Indonesian Embassy in your country, and the cost of the initial visa issuance depends on where it is applied for. Each visa extension costs IDR Rp2,000,000 (roughly USD $140).
You can enter Indonesia within 90 days from the issue date of the visa. Otherwise, the visa will expire. The B211A visa is a single-entry visa, meaning that it will be invalid once you leave Indonesia.
Is a COVID-19 Vaccine Certificate Still Needed?
A COVID-19 vaccine certificate is required no longer, under Circular Letter of COVID-19 Task Force No. 1 of 2023. Having said that, we still recommend that you bring your vaccination record with you because you could still be asked to show it sometimes.
For example, domestic flights have required proof that passengers have received three shots (two vaccinations plus one booster shot), and some airlines as well as local places of interest may still have that requirement.
Printing out your vaccination record will make it easier for others to see it when they need to. PCR test results are not required for entering Indonesia anymore. However, we suggest that you ask the airline you are flying with to see if they require PCR test results themselves.
Status of the SATUSEHAT App for Bali Visitors
Similarly, since the enactment of the Circular Letter of COVID-19 Task Force No. 1 of 2023, the responsibility to download and use the SATUSEHAT app is no longer applicable. Similar to vaccination proof, having the app installed may prove convenient sometimes.
Is Travel Insurance Mandatory for Bali?
Although it is no longer obligatory for travelers to have travel insurance that covers COVID-19 in Indonesia, it is highly recommended to secure one if you do not have medical insurance coverage in the country.
Do You Need Proof of Onward Travel?
Although in actuality you are unlikely to be asked to show this to immigration officials, strictly speaking, you are required to have proof that an outbound flight from Indonesia has been reserved.
Face Mask Guidelines for Travelers to Bali
Although not required anymore, it is still recommended that you wear a good face mask if you suspect you have Covid or if you are feeling unwell.
